In aanvulling op de circulaire van 15 augustus aangaande de ‘USDA notice’ tot aanpassing van de wetgeving voor import van boktorwaardplanten, kunnen wij u melden dat ook Canada van plan is om de regelgeving voor boktorwaardplanten aan te passen. Zodra USA en Canada gezamenlijk een implementatiedatum hebben vastgesteld zal CFIA een WTO notificatie publiceren.

Canada and the United States Propose to Recognize Certain European Countries As Free From Citrus and Asian Longhorned Beetles

In response to a request from the European Commission, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the United States Department of Agriculture – Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) are proposing to recognize 22 European Union (EU) Member States as free from citrus longhorned beetle (CLHB) and Asian longhorned beetle (ALHB). Under this proposal, the CFIA and APHIS would only recognize those EU Member States that are free from both pests or that eradicated an infestation 3 or more years ago. The EU Member States of Austria, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, and Italy remain on the list of countries where CLB and/or ALB are present.

As part of our continued effort to work with the US to align our import requirements, host plants with a stem or root collar diameter greater than 10 mm (0.4 inches) will be admissible from the 22 EU Member States that are considered free from CLB and ALB when this change comes into force.

The CFIA will be issuing a World Trade Organization (WTO) notice with a 60 day comment period when a joint implementation date has been determined. Current requirements remain in place. CFIA’s Automated Import Reference System (AIRS) remains the source for current import requirements
